Exmouth's quiet demeanour belies the excitement and skill of the activities which take place on its surrounding waters. The Exe Sailing Club is home to Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes who brought home an Olympic gold in 2008 for the 49er class. Joe Glanville won silver in 2004, Conrad Humphries won the BT Global Challenge and the Transat Trophy and Stephanie Rowsell is the current female kite surfing world champion.

The lifestyle here can be as dynamic and action-packed as you like, whether your passion is for power boating, water-skiing, windsurfing, or kite-surfing. There are local clubs for all these sports and all offer lessons or RYA courses. The vast expanse of open sand forms one of the country's best practice grounds for kite-surfing and course racing: join in or stand back and watch as beginners battle against the wind and well-practised racers soar above the sea. In a more leisurely mood you might join a fishing expedition, dawdle about under sail, potter along the miles of golden beaches or enjoy watching the action without leaving the land.
